Questions people ask
Can I claim if the driver who hit me drove off?
Yes, in many cases. If the driver is traced, the claim is usually made against their insurer. If they cannot be found, a claim may still be possible through the Motor Insurers’ Bureau, which handles claims involving untraced and uninsured drivers.
What should I do if a driver leaves the scene after hitting me?
If you can, note the vehicle’s registration, make and colour, take photos, and look for witnesses or dashcam and CCTV footage. Report the accident to the police as soon as possible, and get medical help for any injuries.
