A replacement vehicle while yours is off the road
Cars, vans, motorbikes and licensed taxis, arranged after an accident that wasn't your fault.
If your vehicle is off the road after an accident that wasn't your fault and you reasonably need one, a comparable replacement can usually be arranged. It's normally provided on credit hire by an independent hire company, with the charges claimed from the at-fault driver's insurer instead of being paid by you upfront.

Vans and pickups
For tradespeople, couriers and businesses who need a van to keep working.
Motorbikes and scooters
So riders aren't left relying on lifts or public transport.
Taxis and private hire
Licensed vehicles so drivers can keep earning, subject to local council licensing rules.

Can I get a replacement vehicle?

Replacement vehicle FAQs
Quick answers to the questions we’re asked most. Can’t see yours?
Call 0800 820 3860How quickly can I get a replacement vehicle?
It depends on the type of vehicle you need and where you are. Once we've confirmed the other driver was at fault, we'll aim to arrange a replacement as quickly as possible and keep you updated.
Will I have to pay for the replacement vehicle?
If your claim succeeds, the hire charges are recovered from the at-fault driver's insurer. We'll explain the hire agreement, including what happens if your claim isn't successful, before you sign anything.
Can I get a van or motorbike instead of a car?
Yes. The replacement should be comparable to the vehicle you've lost the use of, so riders can usually get a motorbike or scooter, and van drivers a van.
What if I only need a vehicle for a few days?
That's fine. You keep the replacement for as long as your own vehicle is reasonably off the road. If you don't need one at all, you may be able to claim for loss of use instead.
Is the replacement vehicle insured?
Credit hire vehicles normally come with their own insurance arranged by the hire company. We'll confirm the cover before the vehicle is delivered.
Need a vehicle while yours is off the road?
Tell us what happened and what you drive, and we'll explain your replacement vehicle options.
