Cut across at a green light.
Our client was driving through a junction on a green light. They had right of way, and there was no reason to expect trouble. Then a driver coming from the opposite direction attempted a manoeuvre across their path, failed to give way, and cut straight into them.
- Driving lawfully through a green light
- The other driver failed to give way
- Injury claim handled by solicitors at NJS Law
What happened
There was nothing our client could have done differently. They were driving lawfully and with care, and they had no time to react once the other car turned into their route. The collision left them with:
A broken arm
Needed medical treatment and time to heal.
Whiplash
Neck pain, stiffness and restricted movement.
Emotional distress
Knocked their confidence after the crash.
A fracture and a neck injury at the same time make everyday life harder. Comfort, routine and confidence behind the wheel were all affected. When a claim is valued, that wider impact counts as much as the injuries themselves.
How the claim was handled
Our client got in touch quickly, and that made a real difference. Acting early meant NJS Law could secure the evidence while it was fresh, document the injuries properly, and set out a clear case on fault.
Liability was straightforward. The other driver had made an unsafe manoeuvre and failed to give way, while our client was proceeding lawfully on a green light. With fault settled early, the claim avoided a long argument over who was to blame and moved on to what the client was owed.

Who is at fault if another driver cuts across you at a green light?
Usually the driver who cut across. A green light allows you to go on if the way is clear. A driver turning or manoeuvring across oncoming traffic is expected to wait for a safe gap. Fault is still decided on the facts of each case, including speed, road position and what each driver could see. It is worth having your circumstances looked at rather than assuming either way.
Can I claim for whiplash and a broken arm in the same claim?
Yes. Every injury caused by the same accident is dealt with in one claim. For road traffic accidents in England and Wales, whiplash symptoms lasting up to two years are valued using a fixed government tariff. Other injuries, such as a fracture, are valued in the usual way. The two figures are then combined. How that applies to you depends on the medical evidence, which is arranged as part of the claim.
A green light doesn't stop someone else getting it wrong.
