1. About this policy
This policy explains what cookies are, which ones we use on this website, what they do, and how you can control them.
It applies to backonroaduk.co.uk. Our other websites operate under their own cookie policies and their own consent settings, so a choice you make here does not carry across to them.
For information about how we handle personal data more generally, see our Privacy Policy.
Cookies are used by NJS Law Limited, trading as Back On The Road UK, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 15170704, registered office St George Chambers, St Georges Place, Macclesfield, Cheshire, SK11 8BT. NJS Law Limited is authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, SRA number 8006550.
2. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies, including pixels, tags, web beacons and local storage, work in comparable ways. In this policy, “cookies” covers all of them.
Cookies can be first-party (set by us or our website platform) or third-party (set by another organisation whose services appear on our site, such as an analytics or advertising provider). They can be session cookies, which are deleted when you close your browser, or persistent cookies, which remain for a set period.
Some cookies hold information that can identify you, either on its own or when combined with other data. Where that is the case, the information is personal data and our Privacy Policy applies to it as well as this policy.
3. Your consent
Only strictly necessary cookies run automatically. Performance and analytics cookies and marketing cookies are only set if you agree to them.
When you first visit our site you will see a cookie banner. You can accept all cookies, decline all non-essential cookies, or choose category by category. Declining non-essential cookies will not stop you using the site, sending us an enquiry or contacting us.
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the cookie settings option shown at the bottom of the screen. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, and takes effect immediately for future browsing. It does not undo data already collected while your consent was in place.
4. The categories we use
Strictly necessary
These allow the site to work: keeping it secure, preventing fraud, making forms work and remembering your cookie choices. They cannot be switched off through our banner. Some contain a unique identifier, which may be personal data.
Performance and analytics
These help us understand how the site is used: how many people visit, which pages they view, how they found us and where the site could be improved. Set only with your consent.
Marketing
These measure how our advertising performs, help show you adverts that are more relevant, and stop you seeing the same advert too often. Information collected by these cookies may be used by the advertising providers named in section 6 to show you adverts on other websites and apps. Set only with your consent.
Embedded videos
Our videos are embedded from YouTube using its privacy-enhanced mode, so YouTube does not set cookies when a page loads. If you press play, YouTube may set the cookies listed in section 5. Every video has a written version on the same page if you would rather not play it.

6. Who sets cookies on our site
Apart from our own website platform, the following organisations may set cookies on this website where you have consented. Each is responsible for its own use of the information it collects, and its own privacy policy applies.
| Provider | What it is used for | Their privacy information |
|---|---|---|
| Squarespace | Hosting our website, keeping it secure and producing our site statistics | squarespace.com/privacy |
| Google Ireland Limited | Website analytics and advertising measurement | policies.google.com/privacy |
| Meta Platforms Ireland Limited | Advertising, audience measurement and conversion tracking | facebook.com/privacy/policy |
| YouTube (operated by Google Ireland Limited) | Playing embedded videos on our pages | policies.google.com/privacy |
Some of these providers process data outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens, appropriate safeguards are applied as described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Managing cookies in your browser
Separately from our cookie banner, you can control cookies through your browser settings: blocking them, deleting them, or asking to be warned before they are set. Each browser handles this differently, and its help pages will explain how.
Blocking all cookies through your browser may stop parts of this site working properly. Browser controls are also specific to the device and browser you are using, so you would need to repeat them elsewhere.
Your browser may also offer a “Do Not Track” setting. There is no agreed industry standard for how sites should respond to it, and we do not currently respond to it. Our cookie banner remains the way to control cookies on this site.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the cookies we use change, or when the law or guidance changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. Where a change is significant, we will ask you to confirm your preferences again.
9. Contact us
If you have questions about this policy or how we use cookies, email us at backontheroad@njslaw.co.uk, call 0800 820 3860, or write to Back On The Road UK, St George Chambers, St Georges Place, Macclesfield, Cheshire, SK11 8BT.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
