Hit and Run at a Roundabout by a Stolen Vehicle
A stolen vehicle came round the roundabout from the left, hit our client's car, and kept going. No stopping. No details exchanged. Just a driver who left the scene.
What happened
Hit-and-runs feel like a dead end, and that is the reaction we hear most often: there's no one to claim from, so there's no point. Understandable — but not accurate. The client still had a damaged car that needed sorting, and there was still a claim worth pursuing even without the other driver's cooperation.

Can you claim compensation after a hit-and-run?
Often, yes. Where the driver responsible cannot be identified or has no valid insurance, a claim may still be possible through the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB), which operates schemes funded by insurers to cover exactly these situations. There are conditions attached — including reporting the incident to the police — and the process differs from an ordinary claim against an insurer, so it is worth getting advice early.
What should I do straight after a hit-and-run?
Report it to the police as soon as you can and make a note of the reference number. Write down anything you remember about the vehicle — colour, make, partial registration, direction of travel — while it is fresh. Look for witnesses, and check whether nearby homes or businesses have CCTV or whether any passing vehicle may have had a dashcam. That evidence has a short shelf life.
